Founded in April 2008, the South Molton Business Association is the representative body for businesses located within the South Molton area. The primary aim of the Association is to promote inward investment into the area to encourage commercial growth and prosperity for the business community as a whole. The Association is also a lobbying/campaigning group to ensure that the business community has an effective voice across both the private and the public sector.
The Association is headed up and run by an executive committee of eight members, all of whom either are or have traded within the area. Elections are held every year (April) for the executive with members having equal voting rights as to who should represent them. To avoid any conflict of interests, the executive can only contain people who have no direct or indirect involvement with other public sector bosies such as the town, district or county councils.
The Association has a number of sub-committee's made up of business people from the area who deal with matters such as marketing, membership and event planning such as that for the annual Christmas Late Night Shopping Event.
The membership is open to all whether from sole traders to multi-million pound Plc's. There is a flat £60 annual membership fee which is reduced to £20 per annum for traders in the historic South Molton Pannier Market.
